Skin Types For Anti-Aging Skin Care Customization

Selecting an anti-aging skincare product takes time and consideration of whether or not you think it is going to work for you. While there are many wonderful products that can stop, or even reverse the signs of aging, in order for you to make the best choice, you first need to be aware of what skin type you have.

Everyone has a specific skin type and this is an important factor when looking at various anti-aging products. Some products are designed to work well with all skin types, while others are more effective for only one skin type. Understanding your skin type will make it much easier for you to zero in on products that are going to work effectively on those problem areas that you are most interested in alleviating.

First of all, no matter what type of skin you have, over time you’ll notice that your face is showing common signs of aging like fine lines, deep wrinkles in places, sagging eyelids, dark circles, bagginess underneath the eyes, excessively dry skin, age spots, etc. Anti-aging skincare is available to address all problem areas or just one. Most of these products contain a powerful combination of natural ingredients and various levels of moisturizer. Depending on what skin type you have, these anti-aging remedies are going to work according to how your skin reacts to the ingredients being applied to the skin. In order for the product to penetrate and do what is intended, your skin must be able to absorb and utilize the treatment effectively.

When it comes to skin type, you are born with the skin you inhabit and there is no changing it. The main skin types are: Normal, Combination, Dry, Oily and Sensitive.

Normal Skin

Normal skin has just the right amount of water and oil that makes it ideal for many types of skincare products. Normal skin is generally healthy and very well hydrated. Skin tone is smooth and even. Caring for this skin type includes using basic cleansers, toners and moisturizers.

Combination Skin

Combination skin has areas that are dry, oily and normal. For instance, the forehead may be excessively oily, the chin may have dry flakes and the cheeks are perfectly normal. Products that are water-based are best for combination skin.

Dry Skin

Dry skin lacks moisture and must constantly be hydrated in order to stay healthy. Normally, natural oil is produced by sebaceous glands and serves to keep skin moisturized. Dry skin lacks the ability to produce enough natural moisture on its own, so it needs to be hydrated via products that contain ample amounts of moisturizing ingredients. Dry skin flakes easily and feels tight to the touch. It is also easily irritated.

Oily Skin

Oily skin produces too much natural oil, which can make it prone to acne blemishes. After the skin is cleansed, it often becomes oily and shiny within two hours. Oily skin needs products that have ingredients that go on lightly or are water-based. Products should also not bring additional oil to the skin surface. One benefit of having oily skin is that this skin type ages slower than others.

Sensitive Skin

Skincare ingredients that contain alcohol or heavy fragrances easily irritate sensitive skin. There may be many more ingredients that will cause skin irritation, so those with sensitive skin must always be careful when choosing anti-aging products. It’s best to look for products that are either specifically developed for sensitive skin, or clearly state that they are safe for those who have this skin type.

Once you have determined your skin type, you can then focus on finding products that meet your specific anti-aging needs. Anti-aging skincare products are designed to target multiple problems or one specific problem. These problems include: fine lines and wrinkles, dry skin, bags under the eyes, dark circles and sun damage.
