Can I use retinol products while pregnant?

QUESTION:  I just found out I am pregnant and I have been using retinol products for a few months. Is this OK? If not, are there any products you recommend as safe to use for brown spots, acne and wrinkles while pregnant?

D'LYNN'S ANSWER:  I checked with our dermatologists here.  They recommend that you should stop using the retinol products and switch to products that contain either glycolic or kojic acids, both of which are safe to use while pregnant.

The Vivite skin care line contains glycolic acid and has many products that address pigmentation, acne and wrinkles. The Vivite Skin Care System contains everything you need to get started on maintaining your skin. The kit contains Exfoliating Facial Cleanser, Daily Antioxidant Facial Serum, Night Renewal Facial Cream, and Revitalizing Eye Cream. The Exfoliating Facial Cleanser softens the dull, unproductive top layer of skin and non abrasive micro spheres help scrub it away, revealing fresh skin. The Antioxidant Facial Serum exfoliates hydrates and protects the skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Night Renewal Facial Cream is an extra-rich formulation that promotes overnight exfoliation and shedding of dull tissues.

It is always best to ask your Ob/Gyn about products that are safe to use while pregnant, so before starting a new regimen, I would recommend you ask him or her.
